Overview

Latymer Prep, with a scenic river setting, is a popular co-ed school that is known for its caring attitude. The school provides an ‘extensive’ curriculum that instills a set of ‘Learning Habits’ identified to develop a positive learning attitude to their pupil. Examples include, ‘Persistence’, ‘Questioning and Posing Problems’ and ‘Listening and Understanding with Empathy’. The school has developed and believed in a holistic education is really something this school believes in.

The school’s extracurricular activities include chess, zumba, drama, karate, art and film studies, but it is an ever-changing mix, enabling the children to unite from all age groups.

Excellent facilities include a 200-seat theatre, a performing arts building with a recital hall and a new sports centre with a six-lane swimming pool and climbing wall – some of which are shared with the Upper School.

Applications & Registration

Latymer Prep School 7 plus (7+) has approximately 40 places available for about 150 children to go through. Getting your child at seven plus is a good decision to make as they continue to progress and stay to the Upper school until the age of 18.

The deadline for Latymer Prep 7+ registrations entry is in November. Bursaries have been awarded in the Prep since 2014, and families who are interested in a means-tested bursary should emphasize at the time of registration.

Early registrants will be sent a form of confirmation that their child is still intends to sit the 7+ entry examination in the following January. As the school received the confirmation, they will send out sample English and Mathematics papers in the October half term. Full details and information about the assessment day will be sent out at the end of the Autumn Term.

Open Days/Visits

Latymer Prep School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format

Latymer Prep’s 7 plus entrance examination will be in January.
Applicants will sit 40 minute papers that includes the following:

  • English (reading assessment and creative writing task)
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Reasoning

Applicants who performed well in the entrance examination will be invited and take part in a group activity afternoon.

Latymer Prep works collaboratively with many West London prep schools and provides proper guidance in preparation for their examinations. These schools are able to share each other’s Mathematics syllabus. As the child following and being exposed to National Curriculum as an overall guide for Mathematics and English and aimed towards the top of Level 3, the child has no doubt to perform well in the said exam.

For verbal reasoning examinations, it is recommended to focus on published practice materials for ages 6-7 and 7-8 if your child is enjoying them and relishes the challenge!
