Overview

Hampton Court House School is a co-educational independent school, situated in an 18th-century building on the edge of Bushy Park in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The Grade II listed building was built by George Montagu-Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax, in 1757.

Open Events for Hampton Court House School 11 Plus (11+) Entry

Open Days gives the opportunity to meet teachers, the Headmaster and current students which include a talk from the Head, pupil-led tours of the campus and seeing lessons in progress. These events typically conclude with families returning to the Main Hall to discuss any questions with the teachers and the leadership team. Booking is made via an online form.

Hampton Court House School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

To register a place at the school, complete and return the registration form with a non-refundable fee of £150 by the deadline in December.

Applicants will be invited to sit entrance exams, ask for reports and any other supporting documentation (e.g. educational psychologist reports) in January. A confidential reference from the applicant’s current school will also be requested.

Top-performing applicants will be invited for an interview with the Headmaster in early February. By mid-February, successful applicants may receive an offer of a place, to be accepted by the first day of March.

At 11+, the school awards Academic and Music scholarships of 10% of the annual fees. Scholars are expected to take a leading role in the academic, musical or artistic life of the school and act as role models for the duration of the scholarship.

Hampton Court House School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

The Hampton Court House School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:

  • English for 80 minutes
  • Mathematics for 45 minutes

The English paper evaluates both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

The Mathematics exam evaluates applicant’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
