Overview

Colfe’s School is one of the oldest schools in London and is a co-educational independent day school in Horn Park in the London Borough of Greenwich. Originally established by John Glyn in 1574, and was re-founded in 1652 by the Reverend Abraham Colfe, Vicar of Lewisham, became fully co-educational in 1999.

Colfe’s School aims to promote excellence and develop pupils’ abilities and character to the fullest through the provision of innovative academic teaching as well as a wide range of cultural, sporting and extra-curricular activities.

The curriculum includes art, design & technology, drama, media studies, music, modern languages, Latin, PE and mathematics.

By the Outdoor Education activities, the co-curriculum programme develops confidence amongst children within the most spectacular scenery in the United Kingdom.

The programme comprises residential weeks in the Lake District, North Wales and Oxfordshire with courses in canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, mine exploration, gorge scrambling, mountain walking, high ropes courses and bushcraft. Other options include Overseas expeditions, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Combined Cadet Force, etc.

The instillment of spiritual and moral values amongst pupils which complements the balanced and diverse community of the academically selective school is aligned with the Christian principles of the Founder, Abraham Colfe.

In accordance with the motto Ad astra per aspera (Through hardships to the stars), the school nurtures a deeply profound connection with its pupils, established within a peaceful, purposeful and disciplined environment within which they are encouraged to use their talents for the greater good of the community and society as a whole.

Open Events for Colfe’s School 11 Plus (11+) Entry

Colfe’s School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

Attending an open event is the first step in the admissions process. Following the event, proceed to complete an application form along with a non-refundable administration fee of £100.

Applicants will sit entrance examinations in January that evaluate English, mathematics and Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal) skills. The exams are followed by lunch and an afternoon of taster lessons in Culture, Arts and STEM subjects.

Colfe’s School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

All applicants will sit an 11+ examination in January consisting of Mathematics, English and Reasoning papers.

  • The English paper is in both multiple-choice and standard format, examining comprehension, writing skills and technical English skills.
  • The Mathematics paper is in standard format tests problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
  • The Reasoning tests are created by GL Assessment. The Verbal Reasoning paper (multiple-choice) is primarily designed to test and assess your applicant’s logical thinking, the use of English language and vocabulary. The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper (multiple-choice) is designed to test the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
