Alleyn’s Junior School

Introduction

School Name: Alleyn’s Junior School
Description: Co-ed; day schoo
Acceptance Ages: 9+

Overview

Alleyn’s is one of the top academically achieving co-ed schools in London, appealing to children with well-rounded talents. The goal of the school is to create an environment where children thrive academically and develop a deep sense of confidence and self-worth.

Particular strengths include:

Science – the school was awarded the highest recognition of Gold in Science by an independent assessor, the Primary Science Quality Mark.

Drama and performance – the school was founded in 1619 by Edward Alleyn, one of the foremost Shakespearean actors of the Elizabethan age. This heritage underpins the school’s belief that as a subject, drama can strongly inform both formal and informal learning: ‘by encouraging imagination and self-discipline, drama enables children’s hidden talents and potential that may otherwise not be seen in the normal course of a day’.

Regular admission to Alleyn’s Junior School occurs at 4+, 7+ and 9+, to join Reception, Year 3 and Year 5.
Alleyn’s Junior School pupils have automatic entry to the Senior School but they still sit the scholarship/entrance exam with all other candidates. Usually, Junior School pupils are expected to make up one-third of the Senior School’s Year 7 intake.

Open Events

This autumn, as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to inform you that we are not allowed to host any open events.
Since visitors are not allowed and registration is closed, you are still invited to visit Virtual Open Day presentations which are available here. We hope that these will give you a glimpse of life at Alleyn’s Junior School and will give answers to some of your questions about the admissions process.
