Streatham & Clapham High School change the admissions process for Year 7 Entry due to covid.
Mathematics and English papers will be replaced by an online test called the ISEB Common Pretest. This is to be taken by applicants at their current school between November and early January, otherwise, applicants will be tested at SCHS on January 8th.
Please note that your daughter’s scores in the English and Mathematics sections of the ISEB Pretest will be of greater relevance to the school than the Reasoning ones.
Additionally, applicants will be asked to submit a piece of creative writing in connected prose. Topics will be released by the school in late November.
Streatham & Clapham High School | The Assessment: ISEB Common Pre-test
Applicants must complete an online assessment called the ISEB Common Pretest in entering Year 7, which evaluates skills in Mathematics, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
A brief introduction to each subjects covered in the online exam:
English
The English section of the ISEB Pretest evaluates comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation.
Mathematics
The Mathematics section of the ISEB Pretest evaluates mathematical ability across the curriculum, including arithmetic and problem solving.
Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning section of the ISEB Pretest evaluates thinking and problem solving with words.
Non-Verbal Reasoning
The Non-Verbal Reasoning section evaluates thinking with shapes, space, diagrams and pictures.
The entrance exam will last approximately 2.5 hours. Specific time duration of each section are listed below:
- English – 25 minutes
- Maths – 50 minutes
- Verbal reasoning – 36 minutes
- Non-Verbal reasoning – 32 minutes
